After graduating, Lynne accepted a job with the Dry Dock Savings Bank, in Manhattan, and worked as a Teller. Lynne met Norman Ellis, (THS ’56) at the wedding of Roberta Feminella (‘57) and Doug Morgan (’56). Lynne was a bridesmaid and Norman became a “fill-in at Zero hour” Usher. A week after the wedding, they had their first date, and as things turned out, were married November 21st, 1959, one year after the date of their meeting. They had a hard time believing that they had both been in THS-at the same time-- for 3 years, and never before met one another, yet they shared many of the same friends. Norman was inducted into the New York City Fire Department in 1962. The first of their three children was born, Roger (1963), a daughter, Holly (1966), followed, and then another son, Rick (1968). Eventually, all three children followed the Ellis’ Family tradition of graduating from THS. As a “Stay at Home Mom” Lynne used the opportunity to explore, and pursue many interesting adventures. School for the children, teaching Sunday school at church, but a growing interest in psychology, philosophy, divinity and religion, led to a thorough study of Metaphysics. Eventually Lynne found a group of people on Staten Island who shared her interests, and she became a member of The Metaphysical Society of S.I., N.Y., Inc. She soon became a teacher there, and later, in 1978, after many years of study, was Ordained as a Metaphysical Minister. Lynne attended CSI for several years, majoring in Psychology. One of the courses, Parapsychology, became the foundation of her interests and studies in the Healing Arts. When Norman retired from the NYC Fire Department they moved to Jim Thorpe, Pa. A beautiful little historic town nestled among three mountains. This is situated in the Western Pocono Mountains, and is a great tourist attraction. The Swiss Tourist Bureau was looking for a place much like the Swiss mountains, and Jim Thorpe was found to be what they were looking for, and the little “Village” was given the “official” title of “The Switzerland of America”. Norman and Lynne were enthralled by the town and its people, and they were welcomed by the many people, especially the Merchants association. For a few years they were partners in a “New Age” shop, where Metaphysical Books, New Age Music and gifts were offered for sale. Lynne had a hand in book-buying, and she also led a meditation group there, which was very active for several years. Old Time Christmas Celebration was a big event in Jim Thorpe, and Lynne was the chairman of that committee for several years. She later became the Recording Secretary for the newly established Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce In time, they were asked to help in the establishing of a new Historical Museum, to be called “The Mauch Chunk Museum”. Lynne offered to create a Museum Gift Shop. Another part of this endeavor included managing the museum, and being there to welcome visitors. Norman was always interested in history, and he offered his services, too. They became quite a team, managing the “Museum in Progress”, explaining to visitors what the history of the town, and explaining what there was to look forward to in the Museum. An Elderhostel Group was established for Jim Thorpe, and the Ellis’ efforts extended to hosting bus trips, classes, and coordinating tours for both the Museum and the town. Eventually health became a personal issue, for both Lynne & Norman, and it was time for Lynne to stop being so involved in the town, in order to get into alternative, or complementary, Healing Enhancement Modalities. This was the area Lynne felt called to work in. Lynne learned three levels of Reiki, a hands-on relaxing technique, and become a Reiki Master, Teacher & Practitioner. She also was ordained in Pennsylvania, for a ministerial foundation here. Lynne took other courses. Massage Therapy, Hypnotism, Aroma Therapy, and other things that were available to learn, were studied and practiced. But Reiki was the one modality that was the foundation of the methods she would use as a Healing Minister, as well a Minister of Spiritual practice. This is where we are now. It has been an exciting 50 years. We are also involved with our children, grandchildren, and Great-grandchildren. We love to travel, and have been to England, Hawaii, the Western Caribbean, and I went on a trip to Egypt in 1995. When two of our children married they were living in Iowa, Florida and Washington State, respectively. At that time we also had the opportunity to travel our beautiful United States of America. The year 2006 brought us the opportunity to join with the 1956 Tottenville High School Reunion Celebration Cruise and a visit to Bermuda. Oh! How young we all felt~~~being together again. It was as if we were 18 again. It was A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!! |
