STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- James Harold Moran, 69, a sports enthusiast who enjoyed life, died Wednesday in Spring Creek Nursing Home, Harrisburg, Pa.

Born in Tottenville, Mr. Moran graduated from Tottenville High School before joining the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa.

After returning home, he attended Wagner College, Grymes Hill, and worked in the warehouse at S.S. White Dental Manufacturing Co. at its former plant in Prince's Bay. He also worked at Crazy Eddie's, Herman's Sporting Goods and K-Mart. He moved to Hershey, Pa., in 1999.

Mr. Moran was remembered as someone who liked to sit back and enjoy life.

"He was very laid back," said his nephew, Richard Diem. "He was just a low-key guy who enjoyed watching sports on TV."

Among his many hobbies, Mr. Moran enjoyed exercising, going to the beach and playing softball for the teams at SS White, Kelly's Pub and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tottenville.

He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and watching the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Browns. At one point, he had visited just about every baseball stadium in the country.

Mr. Moran is survived by a brother, John.

Funeral arrangements, including cremation, were handled by the Hoover Funeral Home, Hershey.
